THE STORY BEHIND THE CHILEAN MINE RESCUE
The whole world watched, holding its breath. Pushed into the spotlight despite themselves, Luis Urzùa, Ariel Ticona, Edison Peña and Carlos Mamani have become real-life heroes. And with good reason: they are four of the 33 Chilean miners who spent 69 days trapped 688 meters underground, in 35°C heat. Yet beyond their miraculous rescue, who are these men everyone wants to talk to?
This is the question filmmaker Orlando Arriagada, himself of Chilean origin, explores as he witnesses first-hand what their new lives in the limelight are like. In focusing on the human aspects of the miraculous rescue, this documentary also examines the underside of the story, taking a critical look at Chilean society today.
