Meltdown: The Secret History of the Global Financial Collapse

This four-part series takes viewers into the backrooms at the highest levels of world governments and banking institutions.

THE MEN WHO CRASHED THE WORLD
September 2008. The spectre of the Great Crash of 1929 still hangs over Wall Street. From Paris and London, to New York and Dubai, the seeds of catastrophe appear at the heart of financial systems. Could we have headed off the epidemic? Should it be considered negligence, deception, or a crime?

A GLOBAL TSUNAMI
In New York, the failure of Lehman Brothers sparks an unprecedented wave of panic. Behind closed doors, the planet’s leaders tried to contain the fallout and save the world economy.

PAYING THE PRICE
Job losses mount around the globe. In France, furious union members kidnap their bosses. In Iceland, protestors force a government to fall. Anger seethes all over the world.

AFTER THE FALL
Commissions of inquiry are set up to try to identify who was responsible for the meltdown. But as the world economy slowly recovers, fear of the next crisis is already spreading.
