100 YEARS OF FLIGHT IN CANADA
February 23, 1909: the first “heavier than air” plane bumped along a frozen lake in Cape Breton before achieving lift-off for a brief exhilarating moment. The Silver Dart was a first for Canada, indeed for the entire British Empire. One hundred years later, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and Radio-Canada have joined forces to commemorate the centenary of flight in Canada. Shot entirely in HD, with original music by Michel Cusson, CANADA ABOVE AND BEYOND depicts how aviation has transformed this country and linked its citizens as never before.
This four-episode series salutes not only the courage and the determination of those who participated in the hundred-year odyssey of aviation in Canada but also focuses on the passion and the imagination of those who are now making history.
