Taratata

From Frédéric Back

Taram tam tam!
It’s parade day!
The city is bright with banners and flags, there are flowers everywhere.
The parade begins.
In front of the dignitaries’ reviewing stand, riders prance, followed by brass bands and floats that recall the past’s glorious events and evoke a happy future.
A little boy with his faithful dog vainly tries to get a glimpse of the parade, whose sounds are all around him. Frightened off by a policeman, he runs away. When he returns, everything is over.
In the empty street, he sits by his dog’s side, mechanically twirling a little broken flag he’s just picked up.
Surprise! The music starts up, the little boy’s imagination re-creates a child-like parade in which love and tenderness hold the limelight.
