Dimanche soir, après un weekend chargé pour les musiciens de l'Ensemble contemporain de Montréal +, Geof Holbrook a provoqué un changement de registre. Il est passé de la musique contemporaine à Flotilla.

Flotilla est un groupe d'abord formé à Montréal par Veronica Charnley (guitare - voix), Éveline Grégoire-Rousseau (harpe), Geof Holbrook (claviers, basse, arrangements) et Benoit Monière (batterie).

En 2006, Flotilla lançait son premier album, Disaster poetry, et prévoit la sortie d'un nouvel opus ce printemps. Veronica Charnley a d'ailleurs passé la majeure partie du mois de mars en résidence à Banff pour écrire les nouvelles chansons. Nous avons eu droit hier à quelques-unes de ces nouvelles pièces en exclusivité.

Comme la harpiste n'était pas présente, ni le percussionniste, Geof Holbrook c'est transformé en homme-orchestre, jouant tantôt de la basse, tantôt de la batterie, ou encore du piano et de la grosse caisse en même temps.

Flotilla fait partie des groupes à surveiller en 2009, selon le journal Exclaim's. Le groupe indie-rock aérien sera de passage à Calgary, à Toronto et à Ottawa au cours des prochaines semaines. Le lancement de l'album est prévu le 6 juin 2009, à Montréal, à la salle O Patro Vys.

Following a busy weekend for the musicians of the Ensemble contemporain de Montréal +, Geof Holbrook took things in a new direction on Sunday night when he made the leap from contemporary music to Flotilla.

Flotilla is a Montreal band formed around Veronica Charnley (guitar and vocals), Éveline Grégoire-Rousseau (harp), Geof Holbrook (keyboards, bass and arrangements) and Benoit Monière (drums).

Flotilla released its first album, Disaster Poetry, in 2006 and plans to release a new production this spring. Veronica Charnley has spent most of March writing new songs in residency in Banff. Yesterday we were treated to an exclusive preview of a few of her new compositions.

Since neither the harpist nor the drummer was on hand, Geof Holbrook became a one-man band, playing the bass, drums, piano and bass drum in turn.

According to Exclaim! magazine, Flotilla is a band to watch in 2009. The ethereal indie-rock group will be performing in Calgary, Toronto and Ottawa in the coming weeks, and the new album’s official release is slated for June 6, 2009, in Montreal, at the O Patro Výš.
